Intro to Audio

INTRO TO AUDIO

ABOUT THIS CLASS:

We offer this one-day, four hour crash course for those interested in learning more about the process of recording. Don’t worry if you have no prior experience – this lecture is designed for both beginners and novices alike.

We cover a variety of topics, beginning with the basics of signal flow (how audio is captured and how it travels), and ranging up to recording techniques such as micing a bass or guitar amp; how to properly arrange microphones to record drums, as well as how to record in a simplistic or lo-fi manner; and the essentials of mixing – in other words, how to enhance each of your instruments through editing to bring your track to life.

CLASS DETAILS:

The instructor for this monthly course is Sound On Sound Studios’ very own David Amlen. With a long career in audio, owning multiple studios in midtown Manhattan since the 1980s, having multiple grammy- and platinum- awarded albums under his belt, and working with live audio for multiple television networks, David is well-versed in each of the topics we cover in our Intro to Audio course.

Whether you’re interested in a career in audio, want to better understand how to make your own music, or if you’re just interested in learning more about the process, this lecture can help give you a glimpse into the life of a world-class recording studio. Intro to Audio meets the last Tuesday of the month from 6 pm to 9 pm. We have room for a maximum of 12 people per class, so we advise booking your spot ahead of time via the contact form below. A studio representative will reach out to schedule your attendance.
